Ну тут объяснение проще - эта тема сопровождается трёпом, отдалённо и неотдалённо относящегося к LENR. В коллайдере почти всё по теме.

Sterling Allen interviewed Michael McKubre of SRI International, the international research lab in Menlo Park, CA in a one and a half hour talk covering a wide range of topics.  McKubre, long-time cold fusion researcher, has one of the best views of the LENR or Cold Fusion field with experience to match.  Allen offers great enthusiasm and good journalist skills to get information acquired and presented.  Here we'll cover some of the gentlemen's high points of the discussion.  The full report by Allen is this link.

First up is the scale of the National Instruments Week (NIWeek) convention in Texas a few weeks ago.  The attendance was over 3800 people and 110 journalists registered.  That size of an event is quite noteworthy for something the science establishment and academia plus the Patent Office still reject.

NIWeek stands out with Francesco Celani's demonstration of cold fusion in action. McKubre points out, "He was extremely courageous to do that. Demonstrations are hard to pull off – getting it there and running." This bodes well for commercial efforts.  A device that can be moved and restarted at will has been a goal for over 20 years.  McKubre expects demos to improve in the future, "We've tried to bring demos to other conferences, but have never pulled it off."

The academic, peer review journal and science politics are significant topics in the discussion.  Youth, inquiring minds, creativity and just new blood can immensely help a science field to grow, reach deeper into the physics and bring new knowledge to the world.  Allen leans to the conspiracy view, but McKubre has a full career of oversight from the Pons and Fleischmann days.

Allen summarizes McKubre's view saying, "It was initially instigated by scientific laziness. People thought that in three weeks, they could replicate what it took the foremost electrochemist, Martin Fleishmann and his associate Pons, three years to accomplish. And when they couldn't, they assumed that it was because the recipe was bad. "We now know why they didn't work. There are certain thresholds in the experiment, none of which were met.""

McKubre said he is not expert in knowing what it takes to bring something to market, so he is not qualified to give a solid prediction, but he estimates that cold fusion technology could be seen in the marketplace in as soon as a year or two from now, but not this year. "There's nothing about the science that would prevent a commercial object from coming into existence."

As for the price point, he said: "It's going to be cheaper than digging up coal, and blowing off tops of mountains." Another huge advantage of the technology is how long one fuelling lasts -- e.g. six months. That will provide a huge advance over present technologies that require a supply chain.

He's been tracking six companies / groups who are working to bring cold fusion to market. Three of those are not publicly known.

The company he's been most closely involved with is Brillouin, which we at PES have in #4 position in our Top 5 Exotic Free Energy Technologies listing. "They do everything right, I trust their measurements." Soon they will be delivering a unit to his lab at SRI for him to examine and test first hand. "As early as this week, [we expect to] sign a contract to [study it] and scale [it] up." Then from there, they will hand it off to world scale engineering companies.

"I don't care who wins, I just want someone to win."

"No one will be able to monopolize this. Can't do it. Won't be allowed. Has to be multi-component energy strategy. Different devices fill multiple niches."

China Grants Patent to Brillouin Energy

ColdFusionnow - Brillouin Energy of Berkeley, California has been granted a patent for their hot-water boiler technology in China.

The Chinese patent is a huge breakthrough for commercial development of this ultra-clean energy technology. Any duplicate technologies released in the United States would force the USPTO to grant the Brillouin patent, and compel the other company to negotiate with the Brillouin Energy Corporation. This would necessitate a break in the long-standing Department of Energy (DoE) policy that refuses to acknowledge the existence of cold fusion, also called low-energy nuclear reactions (LENR), lattice-assisted nuclear reactions (LANR), and quantum fusion, and which influences USPTO policy.

Further, though no product is currently slated for public release and the company is still prototyping their commercial design, an Original Equipment Manufacturing (OEM) company has contacted Brillouin with interest in licensing the technology.

The Brillouin lab is currently engineering a new gas-loaded design that will run at much higher temperatures, thereby increasing the power output. The Brillouin Hydrogen Hot Tube (HHT)™ is the core reactor of the new design.

Patents had been submitted in countries around the world with Japan "not rejecting" the patent and "some back and forth" on the patent in the European Union, but as with virtually all submissions referencing this new energy technology in North America, the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) rejected the application.

The patents were not awarded due to the U.S. Patent office's political stance of not awarding patents to anything having to do with cold fusion. (That is my sentiment, not BEC's.) The first two patent applications are now published as PTO Application number 20070268045, filed November 22, 2007, and PTO Application number 20070206715, filed September 6, 2007.
